I'm not sure about that. I'm running Fedora f7. Output of ls -al
/dev/audio gives:
crw-rw----+ 1 lrs root 14, 4 2007-11-17 22:38 /dev/audio
and the user who tired to start speech-dispatcher was lrs. In
addition, output of ls -al /dev/dsp gives:
crw-rw----+ 1 lrs root 14, 3 2007-11-17 22:38 /dev/dsp
I'm able to play e.g. with mplayer as the user lrs too.
