Speech Dispatcher on Ubuntu 8.10 with Alsa?

Hello Anthony,

your problem seems very similar to the one discussed recently on the
speech-dispatcher list in the thread named "speech dispatcher not
connecting to alsa".  Please, can you check the discussion and see if
the solution works for you?
